GETTING READY FOR THE ROPE STORY AT WOMADELAIDE 2003
Building the sand sculpture

 

Four days prior to the beginning of Womadelaide Peter Nyaningu, Bernard Tjalkurin, Ushma Scales, Dora Dallwitz, Colin Koch, John Dallwitz and a team of approximately eight Pitjantjatjara teenagers from Woodville High, started to build the rope sculpture. The images below are work in process. The whole job took about eight hours. There were approx. 30 tonnes of sand which needed to be constantly watered to maintain its working consistency.
